It was an impressive time for our journalists and photographers. For several weeks we were so happy as to travel the host country of the Football World Cup 2010. By now, all the members of the ‘entdecke- die Reisemagazine’ team have returned to their desks Sadly, however, we have to say that the first issue will not be published in 2008. Due to the difficult social and political situation in South Africa (the media reported on attacks on foreigners and tourists), we have decided to postpone the publication of our travel magazine.

We had a very clear aim: only the most impressive and most exciting stories were to make it into our first issue. For such an ambitious journalistic project, we wanted to make sure that the general conditions were absolutely perfect – and this is just not the case at the moment. This doesn’t mean, though, that the South Africa issue is not supposed to be published at all! At the first opportunity we will get back to it: it would be unforgivable if such excellent material was to end up unpublished.

It is also free-lance colleagues of ours whom we own gratitude for the amazing material we still have up our sleeves now. Stefan Schomann, for example, has supported us in this eager project. Schomann was born in Munich and has been writing for magazines like GEO, Stern and Die Zeit since 1988. His initials can be found under many breathtaking stories and influential reports. In the article on the famous wildlife resort of St. Lucia Wetlands, he tells his readers that the hippos of this region are floating in the water like guests at a health spa. And in deed: there are pictures of them on one of the many DVDs our photographers brought back home. Already by looking at these pictures you feel like hopping on board the next plane heading south…
