Economy meets ecology: clean power for sustainable communication

After waste separation and an ecologically reasonable IT infrastructure, the decision to choose a new electricity distributer was a consequent step towards more sustainability in everyday working life.
The ‘green fever’ has infected almost all economic sectors from the automobile industry to computer manufacturers. While some years ago it required a great deal of idealism of companies to opt for the more expensive offers, today environmentally friendly alternatives are perfectly acceptable in economic regard, too. And of course such a step is beneficial for the corporate image, too. When two providers offer their services on the same conditions, sustainable corporate principles can tip the scales in favour of a certain company. This was the case when we were selecting our provider for the technical infrastructure or when contracting Strommixer as our new electricity distributer.
Taking responsibility for our common future: already two years ago we opted for Strato AG – the winner of the German Environment Award 2007 – from Berlin when looking for a new webhosting provider. It is indeed laudable that the Internet giant did not rest on its laurels but has been powering its two high-performance data centres exclusively with environmentally friendly electricity from hydroelectric plants since 2008.
Hydro energy plays a key role with Strommixer, too. Since 2001 the company which has its roots in a socio-ethical project of a group of committed individuals deals solely with ‘clean’ energy. The current mix consists of almost 85 per cent certified hydropower; the remaining 15 per cent are produced in plants working according to the German Renewable Energies Act (EEG) such as wind power, biogas, and solar power plants. And with photovoltaics we have come to a full circle in respect of economy and ecology. As a communication agency for a renowned manufacturer of coating systems for solar panels it suggests itself to take advantage of the latest technologies ourselves…
